Wills for Blended Families
Brisbane & Gold Coast
Blended families deserve a Will that reflects real life, not a template. We’re your mobile, all-female team of specialist estate planning lawyers, helping you protect every person who matters, with clarity and care.
Estate planning for blended families, done at your kitchen table, on your schedule.
We’re mobile specialists who travel to you across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You get expert advice in plain English, fixed pricing, and a Will that’s tailored to your family, typically completed within 7-10 days.
Why It Matters
Modern Families Need More Than a Standard Will
Today’s families include stepchildren, former spouses, second marriages, and shared or split assets. Without a carefully drafted Will, your loved ones can be left vulnerable, or left out entirely.
In Queensland, intestacy laws (the rules that apply when there’s no Will) and even standard Wills often fail to reflect complex family dynamics. That’s why it’s so important to work with a specialist who understands how modern families actually work.

What's at Stake
Common Estate Planning Risks for Blended Families
Without specialist advice, blended families often face avoidable problems that only surface after someone has passed away. Here’s what we see most often:
Stepchildren left out
They’re not automatically included under Queensland law
Assets going to a former partner
Unintentional gifts to ex-spouses through outdated nominations
First-marriage children excluded
Common when assets pass to the new spouse
Superannuation confusion
Super doesn’t automatically follow your Will
Jointly held assets
Property held as joint tenants can bypass your Will entirely
Future disputes
Spouses and siblings ending up in court over unclear wishes

Your Questions Answered
What makes blended family estate planning different?
Blended families often involve stepchildren, former partners, and assets from multiple relationships. Standard Wills frequently miss these nuances, which can lead to disputes or unintended outcomes. We tailor every Will to your real family structure.
Are stepchildren automatically included in my Will?
No. Under Queensland law, stepchildren aren’t automatically treated the same as biological children. If you want to provide for stepchildren, your Will needs to specifically include them.
What's a testamentary trust and do I need one?
A testamentary trust is a trust created by your Will that holds assets for your beneficiaries. They’re particularly useful for blended families to protect children from previous relationships, provide for a new spouse, and offer tax benefits. We’ll let you know if one suits your situation.
What about superannuation?
Super doesn’t automatically follow your Will. It’s controlled by a separate binding nomination with your super fund. We review this as part of every estate plan to make sure your super goes where you want it to.
How much does it cost?
We use fixed-fee pricing so there are no surprises. The cost depends on the complexity of your family situation and the documents you need. We’ll quote upfront before any work begins.
How quickly can it be done?
Most Wills are completed within 7-10 days from your initial consultation to signing. More complex matters may take a little longer, but we’ll always give you a clear timeframe upfront.
Do I really need a lawyer? Can't I just use a Will kit?
DIY Will kits often fail blended families because they can’t capture the complexity. A poorly drafted Will can be challenged or invalid, which costs your family far more than getting it done properly the first time.
What if I already have a Will from years ago?
If your circumstances have changed (new relationship, blended family, new assets), your old Will probably needs updating. We’ll review what you have and let you know what needs to change.
Do you really come to us?
Yes. We meet clients at home, in the office, at hospital, at your financial adviser’s, or anywhere else that works for you. It’s how we deliver every Will.
What areas do you cover?
We service all of Brisbane Metro and the Gold Coast. We don’t currently service the Sunshine Coast, so we can give every client the time and attention they deserve.
